Tower Travel Insurance: Who Issues It and What the Policy Wording Says
This page summarises Tower's international travel insurance from the policy wording Tower publishes. It does not rate the product or say whether it suits you — we do not rank insurers. Use it to find the right sections of the wording, then read them yourself: the wording is the contract.
Who issues Tower travel insurance
Tower's international travel policy is issued and managed by AWP Services New Zealand Limited trading as Allianz Partners, and underwritten by Tower Limited. In the wording, "we" means Tower Limited acting through AWP Services New Zealand Limited trading as Allianz Partners.Source: Tower International Travel Insurance policy wording (effective 6 October 2025, ref AZ..TW.INT.6.1025), p.3, 7
In practice this means Allianz Partners administers the policy on Tower's behalf, while Tower Limited is the insurer carrying the risk. The contact details for claims and emergency assistance are printed in the wording and on your Certificate of Insurance.

Domestic travel insurance
Tower also sells domestic travel insurance for trips within New Zealand. We could not find a domestic policy wording linked from Tower's domestic page when we checked, so this page does not summarise its terms. Ask Tower for the domestic wording before you buy.Source: Tower domestic travel insurance, tower.co.nz
What to check in the wording before you buy
- Comprehensive or Essentials. The two plans have different limits for medical, cancellation and rental vehicle excess, and Essentials does not cover pre-existing medical conditions.
- Existing medical conditions. Read the automatic-cover criteria on page 8 and the list of conditions that are not automatically covered, and ask about a medical assessment if yours is not covered.
- Activities. Check the exclusions for off-piste skiing and for motorcycles over 200cc or ridden without a helmet or licence.
- The excess on your Certificate of Insurance, and whether a No Excess option was bought.

What to check in the Tower Travel Insurance wording
SafeTravel, the Government's travel advice service, recommends checking that a policy covers the activities you have planned, your destinations and the needs of everyone travelling (SafeTravel — Travel insurance). These are the points worth comparing between any two policies:
| Feature to check | Where to find it in the wording | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Overseas medical and evacuation | Table of benefits; the overseas medical and emergency expenses section | Treatment and evacuation overseas can be expensive, and the New Zealand Government will not pay these costs (SafeTravel). Check whether the limit is stated as a dollar amount or unlimited, and any sub-limits. |
| Pre-existing medical conditions | Pre-existing conditions section, and the insurer's medical assessment process | Some conditions may be covered automatically, some need an assessment and some are excluded. An undeclared condition can put a claim at risk. |
| Cancellation and amendment | Cancellation section and the list of covered reasons | Only the reasons listed are covered, usually only for events after you bought the policy. Check the limit against what you have prepaid. |
| Excess | Schedule / certificate of insurance and the excess clause | The amount you pay towards each claim. A higher excess usually lowers the premium, and some sections may carry their own excess. |
| Luggage and personal items | Luggage section; item and category limits in the table of benefits | Per-item limits are often much lower than the section total. Phones, cameras and jewellery may have their own limits or conditions. |
| Activities and sports | Activities list, general exclusions, and any add-on options | SafeTravel advises buying a policy that covers the activities you have planned. Skiing, diving, scooter or motorbike riding and cruises often have conditions or need an add-on. |
| Destinations and travel advisories | Region definitions on the schedule; general exclusions | Many policies will not cover travel to countries or regions SafeTravel advises against visiting. The region on your quote must match your trip. |
| Age and trip-length limits | Eligibility section; annual multi-trip conditions | Insurers set their own maximum ages and trip lengths, which can differ by plan. |
| Rental vehicle excess | Rental vehicle section (sometimes an option) | Covers the excess charged by a rental company after damage or theft, within the policy's conditions. |
| General exclusions | General exclusions section | Applies across the whole policy — for example alcohol or drug-related events, unlicensed driving, or known events at the time you bought cover. |
